As for my Christmas. It was pretty good. Sadly, S. Flamm's voice was basically gone. That was sad. We went over to a bunch of members homes on Christmas Eve, as well as Christmas, and shared a message and a song with them. That was fun. Especially when we were at one home and I finished the song and the two little kids exclaimed, "WELL THAT WAS BORING!!!" Hahaha! Kids say the best things.
Then of course we got to Skype which was great. Sadly, I found out that my Grandma passed away Christmas Eve. I'm really sad I won't be able to make it for the funeral to be with all my family to celebrate her life, but I know I'm where I'm supposed to be. I did want to express my appreciation for her publicly though. Although I didn't get to spend tons of time with her growing up I owe my life to her. Without her I wouldn't be here. Physically. Like literally my mom wouldn't be here without her... obviously, but also here on my mission. My Grandma was the first member of the Church in my family. I have a paper with her testimony typed on it that I read often and it confirms to me the truth of Christ and His Gospel and how it has been Restored. Her father had passed away and she was searching for answers. Wondering why there wasn't one church. Wondering why God would give people prophets in times of old, but not now. She searched the Bible diligently for hours everyday. Staying up until 2 and 3 AM after her kids where in bed. She prayed one night and asked God to give her a verse in the Bible that would help her. She let the Bible fall open and ran her finger down the page to fall upon James 1:5. The same verse that struck Joseph Smith when he was searching for answers. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God. That giveth to all men liberally and upraideth not and it shall be given him." She kneeled in prayer and pleaded to know which Church was His. The next morning she awoke with a special feeling in her heart when a knock came on the door. It was two missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They gave her a pamphlet on Joseph Smith and asked her to read it and ask God if he was truly a prophet. She knelt that night and asked God. She described a feeling that immediately came that felt like a sword of truth and light entering into the top of her head and radiating throughout her entire body. She knew Joseph Smith was a prophet. And from there she became a modern-day pioneer, acting on the answer she received and paving the way for the gospel to make it's way down to me. I am forever grateful for her pure and honest search for truth. She has and will bless generations. I will see my Grandma Cow-Cow again. :)
We went on two exchanges this week. S. Goodman came back here for a day which was fun. :) And I went back to Eatonville with S. Ripplinger. Eatonville cracks me up.
Fun moment: We were at our ward mission leader's home, about to head to a members home when he said "I'll race you there!" (Mind you B. Sorensen is in his... late 60's) The race began. We shoved our boots on and sprinted out the door, of course giving S. Sorensen a quick hug on the way out. Jumping in the car, we buckled our seatbelts. We had to go down the street into the little coltasac so we could turn around. We saw his garage door open and the lights flick on. We sped back just passing his garage as the nose of his van poked over the edge of his driveway bobbing to see if he could jump out in front of us. Taking the lead we drove to the Dyer's home. When we got out of the car we assumed the race was over, but to our surprise B. Sorensen jumped out of his car with a little jog towards the door. We caught on quick and sprinted to the door beating him just in time. Champions! :) This made my night. If you knew B. Sorensen it would make yours too.
Last night we had the pleasure of awkwardly interrupting someone making out their car. -__-
THAT was uncomfortable. So embarrassing.
We knock on someone's door. The dog begins barking and howling. (As they all do.) And it's scratching at the little window to the right of the door when a teenage boy comes over wearing pajama pants shouting, "OH MY GOSH BE QUITE THERE IS NO ONE OUT..." as he looks out "...oh. Actually there is." He looks at us, "Hold on." I can't describe how funny it was. But it was pretty funny. :P
Well hope you all have a great start to a new year. Let's all set some goals to improve ourselves and bring us closer to our Savior. :)
Until next time, I'll be doing it the Federal Way.
Love,
Sister Pearson :)
